In Control Advanced Driver Training Engages Students with Action Packed Physics Lab

Acton/Boxborough, Groton-Dunstable and Littleton Teens will learn the science behind
driving and staying safe on the road

ACTON/BOXBOROUGH, MA-October 17, 2008EUR"Science meets the road on Saturday, October
25, as local high school students perform real-life g-force experiments at high
speeds, while at the same time learning driving skills that will help them avoid car
crashes. In recognition of EURNational Teen Driver Safety Week,EUR October 19-25, In
Control Advanced Driver Training will host a special crash prevention course at its
new permanent location in North Andover. This day-long crash prevention training
offers two sessions: a morning session from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an afternoon
session from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. On this day, however, local students will turn the
driving course into a physics lab.

At the Acton Boxborough area Crash Prevention Training program, students from
several area schools will learn how to perform panic stops, how to use ABS breaks,
the effect of speed on control, the dangers of tailgating, and much more. The
students will wear specialized vests designed to measure acceleration in three
dimensions while turning, starting and stopping and determining the coefficient of
friction. In addition to Acton-Boxborough, students from Groton-Dunstable High
School physics classes will also take part in these high-speed physics lessons
created by Groton-Dunstable Science teacher Chris Siren.

The Vernier lab system uses Lab Pro software to download the data from the vest
sensors to laptop computers. This way, not only do students learn vital skills to
stay safe on the road, they can also calculate their physics statistics in a moving
vehicle.
